Abstract
In this paper an axial split phase permanent magnet fault tolerant motor (ASP-PMFTM) with high fault tolerant capability is proposed. The phase-stators of the proposed ASP-PMFTM independently distributes along axial direction, which realized superior magnetic, thermal and physical isolation between phases. In circumferential direction, each phase-stator is further divided into two phase units, and the total motor is supplied by two three-phase four-leg inverters. The proposed ASP-PMFTM has high fault tolerant capability, which can address the open circuit fault and short circuit fault simultaneously. Due to the flexible structure of the proposed ASP-PMFTM, the influence of different topologies on the torque output capability and temperature distribution is investigated under both open circuit fault and short circuit fault condition. Finally, the most suitable topology of the propose ASP-PMFTM that can achieve high fault tolerance of both open circuit and short circuit faults is obtained.
